SIX MEMOS @ The Street Theatre, Canberra Feb 21 - 24
SECOND DOOR ON THE LEFT CD LAUNCH @ Australian Music Centre, February 25, 6pm The Arts Exchange, 10 Hickson Road, The Rocks, Sydney
Don't miss our new show, The Six Memos: The unbearable lightness of being a clarinet quartet, opening the Colliding Worlds Fusion Series at the Street Theatre, Canberra this February. Check out our blog on the Australian Music Centre Magazine website, Resonate. http://www.resonatemagazine.com.au/article.php?id=121
The Six Memos will take you on a raucous, vital, surprising, and eloquent journey that is one quartet's investigation of the world of musical artistry. Inspired and informed by current philosophies on lightness, The Six Memos explore the issue of what constitutes serious music in the 21st century. What is the difference between lightness and superficiality? Do different aesthetics carry different weights? What then shall we choose? Weight or lightness?
Clarity produce work that asks you to leave pre-conceived notions of the clarinet at the door. Collaborating with stage director Caroline Stacey, visual artist David Sequeira and lighting designer David Longmuir they set out to get some answers on being a clarinet quartet in the world of music.

What happens when you mix four dynamic performers with imaginative and unique compositional voices? Second Door on the Left: an album exploring the possibilities of the clarinet, from fragments of ancient melody to 21st century fusion. Music about cartoons and karma, a blues for the drought and Armenian melodies mixed with funk. Recorded with support from the Australia Council, the cd features works by Elena Kats-Chernin, Peter Sculthorpe, Karlin Love and Canberra composers Sandra France, Ian Blake, Ruth Lee Martin revealing a cross section of compositional creativity and the many sonic capabilities of the clarinet family of instruments featured in this recording.
